When we talk about hypnotherapy many people envision a hypnotist swinging a pendulum or worst still make people quack like a duck. During the centuries it has been seen as a magic trick or something you would see a fair ground. But not today.
Whilst this is not taught at medical school there are doctors and health professionals learning this technique to help their patients with pain management. With more and more people turning to the technique to help with childbirth, the menopause chronic pain and anxiety.
There is a growing body of research that is starting to confirm its benefits. The UK’s Royal College of Midwives now accredits hypnobirthing courses and funds training in the technique. Some anaesthetists now include hypnosis in their toolkit. In fact, I recently spoke a gentleman who used hypnotherapy to have his leg amputated.
Whilst hypnotherapy is not touted to replace medicines, its attraction is the ability to get to the root cause of the issue and the rapid effects on the body without months or years of therapy.
We are still learning why it works and with recent studies into Neuroplasticity it only adds to the excitement of its possibilities.
